Ecotourism

In the movement of sustainable development, ecotourism is defined in 1992 by the International Society of Ecotourism as "a form of responsible travel in natural areas that contributes to the protection of the environment and the well-being of local populations" . It includes all forms of nature-based tourism in which the main motivation of tourists is the observation and enjoyment of nature and the biodiversity it harbors, as well as the traditional cultures that prevail in natural sites.

Why is ecoutourism important?

Ecotourism is important because companies and individuals who respect the fundamentals and prioritize ecology and education in their travel habits help benefit local people and the world as a whole.

To promote the development of sustainable tourism, the tourist is invited to follow the basic rules of responsible tourism:

1. sort waste,
2. favor public transport or eco-responsible transport,
3. limit its impact on the environment during its itinerary,
4. consume local

Our natural resources, our source of life!

The way you travel has an impact both on our planet and on our Quebec ecosystems. It is by protecting natural environments that we can fully enjoy the beauty they have to offer. By encouraging ecotourism, you are obviously encouraging the sustainable economic development of the community.

Ecotourism activities in Quebec offer you a unique opportunity to discover the destination out of season, without haste, to take advantage of the products and services on site, to learn more about the fauna and flora and to follow the rhythm of life of the local communities.

The LUPO Wolf Sanctuary will be a new vacation destination for families and adults. We are building today for future generations, with a long-term perspective, and have a commitment to the protection of endangered species as well as to the safe use of facilities. As an ecotourism destination, we have a duty to minimize the irreversible footprints on nature, by integrating the notion of sustainable tourism into the project.
LUPO is inspired by the principles of conservation and sustainable development to carry out its mission of making known the wolf and its major importance in Quebec and Canadian wildlife.
