In 2017, a personal visit to the Northern Lights Sanctuary in British Columbia gave me a transcendent experience. During my explorations following this experience, I met a wolf from the Center de la faune located in the Lanaudière region. I was able to witness the spirit of the wilderness, in his eyes, in the sound of his howl. Affirming my qualitative sentiments, our research on tourism demonstrates that an increasing number of people want to participate in activities where they can connect with nature.
Wolves represent an inherent mystical, spiritual and emotional connection to nature for many people, and follows the inextricable and rational connection with the preservation of wildlife. It is the marriage of these two notions - the gift of wildlife and the responsibility to preserve it and its habitats - that led to the idea of the sanctuary. Since 2018, after accumulating knowledge and learning about similar models, I have been working to make this vision a reality.
